Turf: LeatherjacketsLeatherjackets and your Turf Leatherjackets are the larve of the 'Daddy Long Legs' or Crane fly, they feed on the roots of turf and some serial crops. It is ulmost unavoidable to have some of these in your garden however if to many are present damage is caused to the turf leading to yellow patches, weak turf and poor regrowth. A single Crane fly can lay around 300 eggs in the soil and these go on to hatch after two to three weeks into larve which remains in the rootzone through the winter, the most damage is caused in the early spring shortly before they pupate ready to restart the cycle.
