April Showers:

Mon 14th April 08

There has been a cold, wet and slow start to spring this year with lawns not starting to grow as fast as usual throughout April. Although nature always has a way of catching up and lawn growth will quickly accelerate and frequent mowing will be required to keep your lawn in top condition.
This morning the met office announced:

“The coming summer is expected to be a 'typical British summer', according to long-range forecasts” - http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/corporate/pressoffice/2008/pr20080403.html

This will lead to some beautiful lawn throughout the UK, with no adverse drought conditions to hinder the traditional lawn.
Our advice is to feed well with a lawn fertiliser, mow regularly and enjoy your lawn.

April Lawn:

Fri 28th March 08

Any coarse grasses can be dug out and the areas turfed (ensure these areas are filled with sifted soil to prevent hollows).

Mow regularly enough to keep the lawn tidy but do not set the blades at a low cutting height.

If conditions are good and the grass is actively growing fertiliser can be applied at this moment. It is important that the grass blades are dry and that rain is expected. If in the unlikely event of no rain for 3 - 4 days, irrigate (water) the fertiliser in.

Selective weed killers can be used at this time but it is more prudent to wait until May, when the grass is going to be growing more vigorously.

Spring Has Arrived And It's Time To Prepare Your Lawn

Wed 12th March 08

Now winter is passing its time to give your lawn the care and attention it needs. Turf can struggle through the winter months and now is the best time to get it back to its lush state for the coming summer months. Starting to prepare your lawn involves clearing the lawn of any debris, identifying any damaged or worn areas and getting yourself a lawn mower with sharp blades.

Start off by mowing your lawn with the mower set high as to just trim the top. Gradually as the days get longer, start to mow your lawn more frequently to an ideal cutting height of 25mm (1in).

If you want to revitalise your lawn condition not only mowing will achieve this, we advise applying a lawn feed. We recommend a general purpose lawn seed and by visiting www.onlineseeds.co.uk you can read more advice on other options of lawn seeds. Every lawn is different so check out the website to find the best seed for your lawn. Don't be afraid to overseed your lawn, it will increase the lushness of your lawn colour and will help to repair damaged and worn patches.
