Roundup weedkiller is absorbed by the green leaves of the plant and so the weeds or plant to be treated should be actively growing and not cut down prior to the application of roundup weedkiller.

For best results roundup weedkiller should be allowed to work for 2 weeks before the weeds or plants are cut down. After 4 weeks or so the plants will have completely died and usually just the earth is left behind.
