North West Turf's 950 acre site is close to junction 1 of the M58. The regional climate naturally encourages turf cultivation, as local weather conditions are ideal for this activity, i.e. summertime rainfall and free winter draining due to the nature of this soil. The soil itself is possibly the finest in the UK for turf growing. This is because it is a black, sandy loam. Environmentally, turf aids the removal of CO2 gasses, absorbs UV rays and helps reduce global warming. Turf naturally retains water, reduces run off and erosion with each square metre being a small eco-system in its own right. A huge amount of effort goes into Online Turf's turf production, from selecting suitable land, through the groundwork preparation, to seeding. Once germinated a careful programme of mowing and fertilising keeps the turf in pristine condition. We, sometimes, even vacuum off the clippings to keep the turf healthy. After 14-18 months the turf is beautifully dense and lush. It is then ready for harvest and delivery or placed in our turf loading bay for collection. From harvest the turf, usually, leaves the nursery within hours. |
